NUGOLO PROJECT

OUR PHILOSOPHY IS SIMPLE: HONOR THE NATURAL AND PURE TASTE OF EACH INGREDIENT.

In 2018, Nerina, founder of the project, is looking for a name that encapsulates the concept of the restaurant: a vision focused on ingredients and seasonality, a place that brings people together in an intimate and welcoming atmosphere. Thus was born in November 2019 “Nugolo,” the name of one of the fulcrum ingredients during the summertime: the tomato. A nugolo of tomatoes, in fact, is a particular type of the vegetable, shaped like a bunch. This is just one of the 200 varieties of tomatoes that are grown in the owner’s garden.

THE CITY, ENCAPSULATED IN THE DETAILS: A DEEP CONNECTION WITH THE REALITIES OF THE AREA

The menus are finely drawn and colored in watercolor by painter Claudia Mazzini, who through her art manages to transport the restaurant’s concept onto paper. Each piece is then printed and bound by hand by Angela, a professional artisan and paper specialist, who works in her workshop in Sant’Ambrogio.

In addition, a selection of plates, bowls, and serving dishes are designed and made especially for the Nugolo by the WhitePorcelain workshop, where Nerina herself works. The variety and quality of the products are prominent elements that make the experience at the restaurant unique. Each piece is, in fact, made inspired by the nature that surrounds the workshop in the Florentine hills.

COLLABORATIONS WITH CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES

When AIRC was born in 1965, it was not possible to talk about cancer, and the idea of doing research in this area was considered a challenge by some, madness by many. Fortunately, the founding members, including scientists Umberto Veronesi and Giuseppe Della Porta, had the courage to be such dreamers that they actually tried. For more than 50 years they have been cultivating an ambition that in part is already a reality: to make cancer increasingly curable. That’s why they support innovative scientific projects through transparent and constant fundraising, spread scientific information, and promote the culture of prevention in homes, squares, and schools. Nugolo is happy to be part of this project!

The special ceramic bowls are produced by the Heavenly Strawberries Association, which supports women victims of violence. A beautiful project that works to restore serenity to all those women who have been deprived of it, in a safe and welcoming place. “Often it is nonverbal expression that is the tool with which we access the unspeakable. Art therapy and all nonverbal expressive activities are given a prominent role: silence gives space and frees the unconscious.”
